Temple Site
On December 11, 2023, the location of the Antananarivo Madagascar Temple was announced as a 9.8-acre site next to a U.S. Embassy on Lalana Général Andrimahazo where the meetinghouse for the Ambohijanahary and Ambohimanarina Wards is located. The property is situated in Fokontany Andranoro, Commune Ambohibao, Antehiroka in Antananarivo. Plans call for a single-story temple of approximately 10,000 square feet with patron housing and arrival facilities.1
Temple Announcement
Plans to construct the Antananarivo Madagascar Temple were announced by President Russell M. Nelson at the closing session of the October 2021 General Conference. There are nearly 13,000 Church members in more then 40 congregations on the island nation of Madagascar. The temple in Antananarivo will be the country's first temple. Madagascar is the fourth largest island in the world, and the capital of Antananarivo is home to more than 1.4 million people. The Church has been established in Madagascar since 1993.2
