Cladding Moving Up the Belo Horizonte Brazil Temple Tower
Orange safety fences have been placed along the edge of the roof of the Belo Horizonte Brazil Temple, providing protection to crews who are on the roof regularly to clad the tower in stone. The temple stands in a hilly location of the city enveloped in natural beauty. The temple grounds will be a formal extension of the surrounding nature, featuring colorful flowerbeds and well-groomed trees.

Standing on the hill west of the Belo Horizonte Brazil Temple provides a spectacular view of both the natural landscape and expansive cityscape that stretches into the distance to the east. Scaffolds run across the front of the west-facing temple where the work of stone cladding continues. There are currently ten dedicated temples in Brazil. The eleventh will be dedicated in two weeks, and three others are under construction. Nine more temples are in the planning stages.

The distinctive tower of the Belo Horizonte Brazil Temple can be seen above the tree line while walking north along Avenida Presidente Carlos Luz toward the temple site. The region is teeming with beautiful vegetation including the bright yellow flowers of the Ipê Amarelo tree. Stone cladding of the temple exterior and hardscaping of the grounds are progressing steadily. A masonry fence is being installed along the north property line.
Returning Missionaries Visit the Belo Horizonte Brazil Temple Grounds
A group of missionaries who have finished their missions and are preparing to return home were blessed to visit the construction site of the Belo Horizonte Brazil Temple earlier this month. Cladding has been attached to the east (rear) side of the temple, and scaffolding has been moved to the south side where the work continues. Large staircases are being installed on the sloped east side of the property, which will connect the higher temple grounds to the street-level grounds.
Tower Roof Frame Installed on the Belo Horizonte Brazil Temple
On June 26, the frame for the tower roof was set in place atop the Belo Horizonte Brazil Temple. The structure will eventually support a ball finial with a tapered base. Scaffolding along the east side of the temple is where crews are securing cladding panels to the building's exterior. There are ten dedicated temples in Brazil. In October, the Salvador Brazil Temple will become the eleventh. The Belo Horizonte temple will be the twelfth.
Ward Members Walk to the Belo Horizonte Brazil Temple Site
Members of the of the Alvorada Ward and Caiçara Ward in the Belo Horizonte Brazil West Stake recently participated in an activity where they walked the 3.5 kilometers (2 miles) from their church building to the Belo Horizonte Brazil Temple site. Many photographs were taken to commemorate the event. The structural frame for the temple has been erected, and a moisture barrier is being applied to the concrete exterior walls.
Tower Walls in Place for the Belo Horizonte Brazil Temple
Concrete forms have been stripped away from the walls of the central tower that rises over the Belo Horizonte Brazil Temple. Two tiers of window openings are present on all four sides of the tower. The roof planned for the structure will be roughly pyramidal in shape and topped with a finial. Early work is also underway on the terraced landscaping planned for the grounds that slope behind the temple toward the street.

A recent aerial view of the Belo Horizonte Brazil Temple shows the progress being made on building the frame for the tower. The front side of the temple faces toward an ancillary building that is rising at the base of a tree-covered hill. At the rear side of the temple, the ground slopes steeply down to street level. Stormwater management has been incorporated into the landscape design to handle the large amounts of moisture that fall during the rainy seasons.
Toucans Watch the Construction of the Belo Horizonte Brazil Temple
In the forested areas around the Belo Horizonte Brazil Temple, a pair of toucans can often be spotted watching the construction activity from the nearby trees. A wide variety of birds live in these forests, which create a striking backdrop for the temple. Concrete and steel have been forming the building's main structure over the past nine months. Work is underway on the roof and on building the foundational support for the tower.
Pouring Roof Slabs for the Belo Horizonte Brazil Temple
The exterior walls for the main body of the Belo Horizonte Brazil Temple are in place, and several sections of the roof have been poured. Columns are being formed inside the building to support the windowed tower that will rise over the center of the roof. Materials have been staged for the storm drainage system that is being installed including corrugated plastic pipe and concrete catch basins.
Rainbow Appears Over the Belo Horizonte Brazil Temple
Summer rains produced a vivid rainbow over the Belo Horizonte Brazil Temple site last week. Structural walls are being erected for the single-story structure, which has been under construction for the past six months. In his site dedicatory prayer offered at the groundbreaking, Elder Juan A. Uceda prayed that "no influence will stop or delay the building of the temple and that in due time it will be dedicated as the house of the Lord."
Foundation Work for the Belo Horizonte Brazil Temple
At the Belo Horizonte Brazil Temple site, a temporary electric service pole has been installed next to a group of fenced trailers and containers supporting the construction of the temple. A safety fence surrounds the excavation pit at the back side of the lot where work on the foundation is progressing. The property is located south of Hospital Libertas on Rua Professor Jose Vieira de Mendonça. The groundbreaking was held in June.
Construction Underway at the Belo Horizonte Brazil Temple Site
Major construction is afoot at the Belo Horizonte Brazil Temple site where earthworks are getting underway and a tower crane with an exceptionally long jib has been installed. A construction barrier has been erected around the hillside property, and signage has been posted. Founded in 1897, Belo Horizonte is considered one of the first modern planned cities in Brazil. It now has a population of over 2.7 million residents.
Ground Broken for the Belo Horizonte Brazil Temple
On Saturday, June 17, the groundbreaking ceremony was held for the Belo Horizonte Brazil Temple under the direction of Elder Juan A. Uceda of the Brazil Area presidency. He was accompanied by his wife, Maria Isabel, and Elder Luciano Sankar, an Area Seventy. Approximately 500 guests were in attendance including government officials. In his site dedicatory prayer, Elder Uceda implored the Father saying: "I ask Thee, dear Father, that this place and all who live within the boundaries of the temple district enjoy special protection. And may the light of the gospel shine throughout this region. We pray that no influence will stop or delay the building of the temple and that in due time it will be dedicated as the house of the Lord. May Thy spiritual power be strongly felt in this region."
Groundbreaking Announced for the Belo Horizonte Brazil Temple
Elder Juan A. Uceda, second counselor in the Brazil Area presidency, will preside at the groundbreaking ceremony for the Belo Horizonte Brazil Temple on Saturday, June 17, 2023. The 26,884-square-foot temple will be constructed on an 11.9-acre site located on Rua Professor José Vieira de Mendonça in the Engenho Nogueira neighborhood of Belo Horizonte. It is the first temple to be built in the state of Minas Gerais.
Rendering and Location Released for the Belo Horizonte Brazil Temple
The official exterior rendering and location were released today for the Belo Horizonte Brazil Temple. The temple will be constructed on an 11.8-acre site located on Rua Professor Jose Vieira de Mendonça in Belo Horizonte. The 27,000-square-foot building will feature a central tower with a pyramid roof. The temple will be one of thirteen that are dedicated, under construction, or announced for the nation of Brazil.
