The dates for the open house and dedication of the Elko Nevada Temple have been announced. A media day will be held on Wednesday, August 27, followed by two days of tours for invited guests. Tours for the public will be offered from Saturday, August 30, through Saturday, September 13, excluding Sundays. The temple will be dedicated by Elder Gary E. Stevenson of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles on Sunday, October 12, 2025. The dedicatory session will be broadcast to all units in the temple district.1
Groundbreaking Ceremony
Elder Paul B. Pieper of the Quorum of the Seventy presided at the groundbreaking for the Elko Nevada Temple on Saturday, May 7, joined by his wife, Melissa, and other Church leaders and invited guests. "We are thankful for the blessing of a temple in Elko," said Elder Pieper in his site dedicatory prayer, "and for the many faithful souls, past and present, who for many years have traveled great distances to other temples." Construction will soon begin on the 10,000-square-foot temple on a 5.2-acre site on the Ruby View Golf Course. Elder Pieper said, "As we watch this temple rise in the coming months, may we each reach out to God with a greater desire to know Him and love Him, and to know and love our neighbors."2

On September 17, 2021, the official exterior rendering was released for the Elko Nevada Temple.
Temple Site
On June 10, 2021, the site for the Elko Nevada Temple was announced as a 5.2-acre parcel adjacent to the southeast corner of Ruby View Golf Course. Plans call for a single-story temple of roughly 10,000 square feet.3
Temple Announcement
On April 4, 2021, President Russell M. Nelson announced plans to construct the Elko Nevada Temple at the 191st Annual General Conference. Nevada borders California in the Western United States and is home to more than 184,000 Latter-day Saints and roughly 350 congregations. The first mission of the Church in Nevada was established in 1855; 30 men were called to establish it at the Meadows in southern Nevada. Although Nevada was part of Utah Territory until it became a state in 1864, it was not until 1942 that The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints organized a stake (a group of congregations) based in Elko County. The Elko Nevada Temple will be the state’s third temple. Other temples in operation include the Reno Nevada Temple and the Las Vegas Nevada Temple.4
