Red Skies Behind the Elko Nevada Temple
Deep red skies fill the horizon as the sun sets behind the Elko Nevada Temple. While the vast majority of the building's exterior and landscaping have been finished, there is still a good deal of work to be done on the interior, which is about 70 percent complete. The temple can be seen from many parts of the Ruby Valley, especially from Interstate 80.

Monument Sign Panels Installed on the Elko Nevada Temple Grounds
The inscribed panels for the monument sign of the Elko Nevada Temple have been installed, and the lettering has been painted in gold, matching the accent color of the spire and ornamental window headers. Members in Northeastern Nevada have traveled to the Salt Lake Valley to participate in temple ordinances for many years. They look forward with great anticipation to the temple's completion, but no open house or dedication dates have been announced yet.

Ruby Mountain Balloon Festival Held in Elko, Nevada
Some beautiful images of the Elko Nevada Temple were captured this weekend during the Ruby Mountain Balloon Festival. The annual event brings pilots and crews from all over the United States who jump at the chance to fly their colorful hot-air balloons. The 10,000-square-foot temple is a beautiful landmark located on a 5.2-acre site adjacent to the Ruby View Golf Course. It is the third to be constructed in the state.

Sprinkler System Functioning on the Elko Nevada Temple Grounds
The summer months have seen major progress on the landscaping of the Elko Nevada Temple grounds. Grass sod has been laid, and the sprinkler system has been installed and tested. To conserve water, large portions of the grounds have been landscaped with rock mulch and waterwise plants. Finish work continues on the interior of the building, which has become a beautiful landmark for travelers on Interstate 80.

Estabishing Trees on the Elko Nevada Temple Grounds
A variety of deciduous and evergreen trees are appearing on the grounds of the Elko Nevada Temple. Most of the saplings are supported by two stakes on each side while they put down roots and begin to be established. Lamp posts have also been installed along the walkways that encircle the building. The temple is the third to be constructed in Nevada. A fourth was recently approved for construction on the west side of Las Vegas.

Scaffolding Fully Removed from the Elko Nevada Temple
Scaffolding has been fully removed from the exterior of the beautiful Elko Nevada Temple. The 10,000-square-foot edifice can be easily seen and accessed from Interstate 80, as it stands on a hill next to the Exit 303 on-ramp. At the rear side of the building, a plaza has been constructed, and the walls have been clad. A set of stairs has been installed from the plaza to the street.

Fence Installation on the Elko Nevada Temple Grounds
Permanent fencing has been installed on the grounds of the Elko Nevada Temple, inside the temporary chain-link fence. Most of the scaffolding has been removed from the steeple, and progress is being made on installing and cladding the hardscape features. Heavy equipment is carrying out the fine grading and excavation needed for the landscaping. Construction has been underway for just over two years.

Heavenly Scene at the Elko Nevada Temple
The aurora borealis paints a heavenly scene behind the beautiful Elko Nevada Temple, which has been under construction for the past two years. The psalmist said, "The Lord is in his holy temple, the Lord’s throne is in heaven: his eyes behold, his eyelids try, the children of men. The Lord trieth the righteous…[f]or the…Lord loveth righteousness; his countenance doth behold the upright" (Psalm 11:4–5, 7).

Exterior Stone Cladding of the Elko Nevada Temple Completed
Stone cladding of the Elko Nevada Temple has been completed, having now reached the top of the steeple. The first panels were installed about nine months ago. On the interior, finish work is getting underway. Walls are being prepped for primer and paint, and floors are being readied for tile. The installation of permanent lighting has also begun. Muntin bars are in place for the art glass windows, which will be encased between panes of clear glass and backlit by the interior lighting.

Finish Work Getting Underway Inside the Elko Nevada Temple
Finish work has begun inside the Elko Nevada Temple where framing and utility rough-ins have been completed, and all of the drywall has been hung. Painting, tiling, and millwork are in the early phases with many months of work yet ahead. Clear glass has been installed in the window openings, which will protect the stained glass that will be added later. The exterior granite is nearly finished.

Spire Installed Atop the Elko Nevada Temple
The Elko Nevada Temple reached an important milestone last Thursday when the spire was hoisted into place atop the tower, bringing the house of the Lord to its final height. Scaffolding surrounds the steeple where the work of stone cladding continues. Plans to construct Nevada's third temple were announced during the April 2021 general conference, and a groundbreaking was held about 13 months later.

Cladding the Portico and Steeple of the Elko Nevada Temple
Cladding is progressing on the portico and steeple of the Elko Nevada Temple, which will serve members living in the northeastern region of the state. Elder Paul B. Pieper of the Quorum of the Seventy presided at the groundbreaking almost 20 months ago. He said, "As we watch this temple rise in the coming months, may we each reach out to God with a greater desire to know Him and love Him, and to know and love our neighbors."

Granite Cladding Unveiled at the Elko Nevada Temple
Scaffolding has been removed from two sides of the Elko Nevada Temple, revealing the beautiful granite cladding that has been secured to the exterior surfaces of the building. The temple will be accentuated with gold-colored accents including the spire, the entrance doors, and the window frames and headers. The city of Elko is considered the capital of Nevada's goldbelt with an economy heavily based on gold mining.

Curbing Poured at the Elko Nevada Temple Site
Curbing has been installed at the Elko Nevada Temple site ahead of the pavement for the parking lots. A view of the property toward the east shows the ancillary building in the foreground on the right and the temple in the background in the middle. Stone cladding of the temple exterior continues, and work on the interior also progresses. A temple in Elko will spare members from traveling across Utah's West Desert to participate in temple ordinances in the Salt Lake Valley.

Exterior Cladding of the Elko Nevada Temple Moving Forward
Stone cladding continues to move up and around the exterior walls of the Elko Nevada Temple. Work began in the summer and is expected to continue over the coming months. The concrete block walls for the ancillary building are in place, and interior framing is progressing. The house of the Lord was announced in the April 2021 General Conference, and the groundbreaking was held on Saturday, May 7, 2022.

Stone Cladding Progress at the Elko Nevada Temple
Even the fence is happy with the progress being made on the Elko Nevada Temple. Granite panels are being attached to hanging brackets on the exterior walls while early work on the interior is moving forward. Elko was settled in 1868 when it was at the east end of the railroad tracks built by the Central Pacific Railroad. When the railroad crews moved on, the town remained, serving as a supply center for ranching, mining, and rail freight.

Cladding of the Elko Nevada Temple Underway
Stone cladding of the Elko Nevada Temple has begun. Framing for the building began to rise just three months ago, and that was followed by the attachment of yellow sheathing boards. Those boards were coated with a dark water-resistant sealant, and metal hanging brackets for the cladding began to appear soon after. The current speed of construction is a welcomed increase in pace.

Scaffolding Erected at the Elko Nevada Temple
Scaffolding is going up around the Elko Nevada Temple as crews prepare to clad the exterior in stone. Much of the sheathing has been damp proofed, and hanging brackets have been secured to the exterior walls. The city of Elko made headlines this week because of the hordes of Mormon crickets swarming the town. One hospital even hired four part-time employees—known as the Cricket Patrol—to clear the campus of crickets long enough for patients to enter the building.

Sheathing Underway at the Elko Nevada Temple
Sheathing boards are being attached to the steel frame of the Elko Nevada Temple, forming the exterior walls of the building. Framing for the parapet is in place along the roofline, and deliveries of stone cladding have begun. It is the third temple to be constructed in the state of Nevada. A fourth has been announced for Las Vegas, known as the Lone Mountain Nevada Temple.

Framing the Exterior Walls for the Elko Nevada Temple
Structural steel has been erected over the past month for the 10,000-square-foot Elko Nevada Temple, and light framing has commenced on the ground floor exterior walls. The building sits on elevated property at a curve in Ruby Vista Drive, making is visible to motorists on Interstate 80. The one-year anniversary of the groundbreaking ceremony is in one week.

Heavy Framing Underway for the Elko Nevada Temple
Steel columns are rising at the Elko Nevada Temple site where foundation work has been completed and framing of the superstructure has begun. Base plates at the ends of the columns are bolted to the mounting plates embedded in the foundation. The temple will be a traditional build instead of modular construction, allowing for a comparison between the two methods. The temple has been under construction for 11 months.

Foundation Constructed for the Elko Nevada Temple
Motorists traveling Ruby Vista Drive can catch a glimpse of the concrete foundation for the Elko Nevada Temple. A recent image of the property shows the foundation perched on a snow-covered mound, rising above the chain-link construction fence. Once the framing steel arrives, columns will be secured to the foundation using the mounting plates that are embedded in the concrete.
Pouring Footings for the Elko Nevada Temple Foundation
Concrete crews at the Elko Nevada Temple site have made numerous concrete pours for the foundation over the past several weeks. Mounting plates will be embedded into the thick concrete for securing the steel frame that will be erected for the superstructure of the building. Construction of the temple began eight months ago.

Stormy Construction Day at the Elko Nevada Temple
A recent webcam view of the Elko Nevada Temple site gives a glimpse of the continuing construction, even under stormy conditions. The idea of a temple for Elko was proposed to the Saints in the area by President Gordon B. Hinckley over 25 years ago. The prophet, accompanied by Elder Jeffrey R. Holland, gathered in the Spring Creek High School gym with more than 4,200 members from the four stakes in northeast Nevada on Sunday, April 20, 1997. He said he was pleased with the membership in Elko and expressed his belief that a temple would be built there one day.

Excavation Progress for the Elko Nevada Temple
A high-density polyethylene liner encircles the sloped edges of the excavation area for the Elko Nevada Temple. Ground preparation activities have been underway for the past three months, which included mass excavation and bringing in a superior material. The temple site, located on Ruby Vista Drive, has a beautiful view of the Ruby Mountains—located about 20 miles from the city. They have been called the Swiss Alps of Nevada.

Excavation Still Underway for the Elko Nevada Temple
Mass excavation continues for the Elko Nevada Temple as new material is imported to create the proper soil conditions for construction. The on-site missionaries are thrilled to be involved with the project. In addition to providing a visitors' experience, the couple ministers to the construction workers. They get to know them and their families while providing love and encouragement in the work they do. A neighbor has set up a webcam to monitor the construction progress and to provide occasional photographs.

Excavation at the Elko Nevada Temple Site
In the two weeks since the groundbreaking ceremony was held for the Elko Nevada Temple, significant excavation and grading activity has been carried out. A large circular area has been carved where the temple will stand, surrounded by circular hardscape. Plans call for a grounds building and an ancillary building that will likely house a distribution center, non-patron waiting area, and restrooms.

Groundbreaking Event Held for the Elko Nevada Temple
Elder Paul B. Pieper of the Quorum of the Seventy presided at the groundbreaking for the Elko Nevada Temple on Saturday, May 7, joined by his wife, Melissa, and other Church leaders and invited guests. "We are thankful for the blessing of a temple in Elko," said Elder Pieper in his site dedicatory prayer, "and for the many faithful souls, past and present, who for many years have traveled great distances to other temples." Construction will soon begin on the 10,000-square-foot temple on a 5.2-acre site on the Ruby View Golf Course. Elder Pieper said, "As we watch this temple rise in the coming months, may we each reach out to God with a greater desire to know Him and love Him, and to know and love our neighbors."

Clearing the Elko Nevada Temple Site
The groundbreaking event for the Elko Nevada Temple is less than three weeks away, and site preparation activity is well underway. The ground is being leveled and cleared of vegetation ahead of the ceremonial services scheduled for Saturday, May 7. The site is located on Ruby Vista Drive at the southeast corner of Ruby View Golf Course. In addition to the 10,000-square-foot temple, side-by-side supporting buildings will be constructed.

Groundbreaking Announced for the Elko Nevada Temple

The temple will be constructed on a 5.2-acre property located at the southeast corner of Ruby View Golf Course.
