Feather River California Temple Dedicated by Elder Soares
"The dedication of this and all the other temples testifies that God has a divine vision and plan for His sons and daughters from all generations," said Elder Ulisses Soares of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles at the dedication of the Feather River California Temple on Sunday, October 8, 2023. "It is indeed evidence of the divinity of His true gospel. This temple stands as a beacon in this area." The 41,655-square-foot structure is located at 1470 Butte House Road in Yuba City.

The open house for the Feather River California Temple began today with a media event for journalists and community leaders. Over the next few days, invited guests will tour this House of the Lord, followed by public tours from Saturday, August 19, through Saturday, September 9, 2023, except Sundays. The 41,655-square-foot temple is located next to a new meetinghouse and distribution center at 1470 Butte House Road in Yuba City—a city rich with religious diversity. "To see the strength that each religion has and the love that they have for their God, I just love being a part of that and feeling it and worshiping with them," said Virgil Atkinson, a Church member who serves on the Yuba-Sutter Community Task Force. "I plan on walking through the temple with hundreds if not thousands of people from our community who love and respect us and want to come to the temple."
Feather River California Temple Open House and Dedication
The First Presidency has announced the opening dates for the Feather River California Temple. The public open house will be held Saturday, August 19, through Saturday, September 9, 2023, with no tours held on Sundays. Elder Ulisses Soares of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles will dedicate the temple in two sessions on Sunday, October 8, at 10:00 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. Both sessions will be broadcast to all units in the temple district. A media day will kick off the open house on Tuesday, August 15, followed by tours for invited guests from Wednesday, August 16, through Friday, August 18, 2023.
Wrapping Up Construction on the Feather River California Temple
The Feather River California Temple is in the final weeks of construction, which began nearly two and a half years ago. Furniture is slated to arrive next month, and final inspections will follow. The temple will serve members from a large section of Northern California who currently participate in temple ordinances at the Sacramento California Temple, Oakland California Temple, and Medford Oregon Temple. No open house or dedication dates have been announced.
Counselors Called to the Feather River California Temple Presidency
Counselors and assistant matrons have been called to the Feather River California Temple presidency. They will serve with President John Hoybjerg, the temple president, and Sister Valerie Hoybjerg, the temple matron. Brother Alan Fisher, a sealer and former stake president, will serve as first counselor with his wife, Liz Fisher, as assistant matron. Brother Dale Madsen, also a sealer and former stake president, will serve as second counselor with his wife, Jo Anne Madsen, as assistant matron.
Feather River California Temple District Information
The seven stakes that will belong to the Feather River California Temple district have been confirmed. They are the Anderson California Stake, Chico California Stake, Gridley California Stake, Lincoln California Stake, Redding California Stake, Ukiah California Stake, and Yuba City California Stake. The temple has been under construction for nearly 28 months and is expected to be completed next year.
Feather River California Temple Grounds Nearly Finished
The parking areas at the Feather River California Temple site have been handsomely resurfaced and striped while final landscaping of the grounds is underway. Milled woodwork is being installed on the second floor such as crown moldings, casings, doors, and wall panels. On the ground floor, stone is being installed on high-impact surfaces. The temple is anticipated to open next year, but no dates have been announced for the open house or dedication.
Trailers Removed from the Feather River California Temple
With the Feather River California Temple drawing closer to completion, the decision was made to remove both the visitors' center trailer and the contractor's office trailer from the temple site this month. The missionary couple will continue to be available in the adjoining stake center. Additional stained-glass windows have been installed in the temple, and the landscaping is looking more beautiful by the day.
Moving the Trailers from the Feather River California Temple Site
The contractor's trailer and visitors' center trailer will be removed from the Feather River California Temple site next month. The couple missionaries will maintain an office in the new stake center next door. Inside the temple, crews are laying marble floor tile, installing millwork, and tiling the baptistry. Installation of the flagpole has been completed, and landscaping is nearing completion. Sod will be laid once the weather cools.
Feather River California Temple Is More Beautiful by the Day
Impeccably produced panes of stained glass continue to be installed in the lower levels of the Feather River California Temple. Inside, twelve oxen have been installed around the base of the baptismal font, representing the twelve tribes of Israel. On the grounds, workers are installing a flagpole to fly a flag of the United States. Much of the landscaping is in place including lamp posts, fencing, pavers and plenty of plants and trees.
Beautiful Night at the Feather River California Temple
The steeple pedestal of the Feather River California Temple softly glows at the close of another construction day. President Joseph F. Smith saw in vision this day of prolific temple building and worship by "choice spirits who were reserved to come forth in the fulness of times to take part in laying the foundations of the great latter-day work, including the building of the temples and the performance of ordinances therein for the redemption of the dead" (Doctrine and Covenants 138:53–54).
Stained Glass Installed in the Feather River California Temple Steeple
Lovely stained-glass windows are being installed in the Feather River California Temple as seen this recent photograph of the steeple. The calming blue and green tones feel symbolic of living water and in harmony with the nearby Feather River. The front entrance is still boarded while stained-glass panes are inserted into the door panels. Pavers are being laid for the entrance plaza, and entrance gates have been hung.
Feather River California Temple Doors Temporarily Uncovered
The protective plywood that has covered the entrance doors to the Feather River California Temple has been temporarily removed for the installation of stained glass. Once the custom panes are in place, the plywood will be returned for the duration of construction. A pair of regional youth "Indexathons" have been held recently on property next to the temple that have featured three hours of indexing, an hour of eating, and three hours of dancing.
Ornamental Fence Installed at the Feather River California Temple
Black rails are being installed between the posts of the ornamental fence that surrounds the grounds of the Feather River California Temple. A distinguished grove of mature olive trees stands on the property, and thousands of plants and shrubs are adding life and beauty to the sacred site. Located in the Northern California community of Yuba City, the temple will be the most northern in the state.
Foliage Fills the Feather River California Temple Grounds
The entrance to the Feather River California Temple complex offers a picturesque view of the temple, which stands among a growing number of trees and shrubs. Lamp posts, fence posts, and bollards are among the hard elements being installed on the grounds, and a wide variety of foliage is making its appearance including transplanted olive trees. Wall sconce light fixtures have been installed on either side of the front doors.
Lighting the Exterior of the Feather River California Temple
Exterior lighting system tests are underway at the Feather River California Temple, creating a stunning nighttime view of the sacred edifice. Soft landscaping at the temple site is moving forward including the delivery and planting of olive trees that are over 100 years old. Irrigation lines have been laid, and numerous bushes and flowers are finding their new home on the temple grounds.
Angel Moroni Installed on the Feather River California Temple
A gold-leafed fiberglass statue, depicting the heralding angel Moroni, was lifted into place today to the top of the domed cupola of the Feather River California Temple, located in Yuba City. The meetinghouse that is under construction next to the temple received its white steeple just three weeks ago. Landscaping Progress at the Feather River California Temple
A Christmas Day photograph of the Feather River California Temple shows the progress that has been made on the entrance plaza. The concrete slab has been poured around the planters, some shrubbery has been planted, and lamp posts and gate posts have been installed. Scaffolding remains around the steeple, which has yet to be completed.
Hardscaping the Feather River California Temple Grounds
At the main entrance to the Feather River California Temple, concrete walls have been poured for six planters of various shapes that have been wired for path lighting that will brighten the walkways leading to the front door. Planter footers have also been poured at the rear side of the building near the baptistry windows. Construction activities at the meetinghouse include roofing, brick laying, and window installation. Monument Sign Panels Installed for the Feather River California Temple
Panels inscribed with the name of the Church and the temple have been attached to the concrete base for the monument sign of the Feather River California Temple in Yuba City. The panels match the color and design of the exterior wall panels used to clad the temple. Construction of the adjoining meetinghouse is also progressing with roofing underway and the exterior now wrapped in a weather barrier.
Framing the Stake Center at the Feather River California Temple Site
Major progress has been made on the stake center that shares a site with the Feather River California Temple. The concrete slab for the building was poured in June, and just a couple of months later, the majority of the roof has been framed and the exterior walls have been sheathed. Hanging Drywall Inside the Feather River California Temple
On the first floor of the Feather River California Temple, framing has been finished, and about 90 percent of the drywall is hung. On the second floor, nearly 90 percent of the framing is in place, and drywall installation has just begun. Glass is being inserted into the window openings to enclose the building while preparations are underway to weld the single-ply PVC membrane roof for a tight fit. Framing of the stake center is scheduled to begin next week.
Framing the Interior of the Feather River California Temple
Work has been focused on the interior of the Feather River California Temple since cladding of the exterior was completed about two months ago. Steel studs are framing the interior rooms, and utilities are being roughed in. Local members are happy to deliver treats or meals to the construction crew on Fridays. Many feel privileged to be working on the project and sense a special spirit there. Visitors are welcomed at the missionary trailer on most days between 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m.

Cladding of the Feather River California Temple in precast panels has progressed to the body of the steeple. The rectangular-shaped tower will feature four arched windows while the octagonal lantern tower will hold eight windows, capped with a domed cupola and angel Moroni statue. Inside the temple, rooms are being framed and utility runs roughed in.

Cladding of the main body of the Feather River California Temple with precast wall panels is nearly finished, leaving just the steeple and mechanical level on the roof. The beautiful temple will be joining a wide variety of houses of worship found throughout the diverse Yuba City region. The attachment of elegant cream-colored panels to the frame of the Feather River California Temple is making speedy progress. The wide arched panel that will hold the stained-glass windows for the Celestial Room and baptistry has been installed on the rear side of the building. The second-story panels feature classy moldings that will sit just beneath the temple's parapet panels.

The attachment of precast concrete panels to the steel body of the Feather River California Temple is progressing steadily. The arched window openings on each side of the temple have been installed, looking beautiful under the sunny California skies. The west coast temple shares a similar floor plan with the Richmond Virginia Temple, currently under construction on the east coast.

Precast concrete panels are arriving at the Feather River California Temple for attachment to the steel structure of the building. The panels being installed along the body of the temple will each hold an arched upper window and a rectangular lower window. The temple is the eighth to be constructed in the state of California.
Cupola Frame Attached to the Feather River California Temple
On Friday, February 5, a crane hoisted the frame for the cupola of the Feather River California Temple to its place atop the tower frame, bringing the temple to its full height, except for the future addition of the angel Moroni. The structure will feature eight arched windows and an octagonal dome. A three-minute video captures the exhilarating moment of installation.

A rainbow appears over the Feather River California Temple while the construction crew sets steel beams into place for the body of the steeple that will rise over the entrance to the building. The octagonal frame for the cupola sits in a staging area on site, ready to be attached once the steeple frame is installed. The cupola will feature an octagonal dome, supporting a figure of the angel Moroni.
