Temple Announcement
On October 1, 2023, President Russell M. Nelson announced plans to construct the Goiânia Brazil Temple at the October 2023 General Conference. Goiânia, which has a population of around 2.9 million people, is the capital and largest city of Goiás, a state in the central-west region of Brazil. It will be the 21st temple in the country. Prior to the announcement, eight temples were in the planning stages for Brazil in the cities of Londrina, Maceió, Natal, Ribeirão Prêto, Santos, São Paulo East, Teresina and Vitória. Ten dedicated temples were located in Belém, Brasília, Campinas, Curitiba, Fortaleza, Manaus, Porto Alegre, Recife, Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo. Two temples were under construction in Belo Horizonte and Salvador.1
