Groundbreaking Ceremony

Elder Mathias Held, First Counselor in the North America Northeast Area Presidency, will preside at the groundbreaking event for the Grand Rapids Michigan Temple on Saturday, December 7, 2024. The temple will be constructed on a 10.5-acre property located at 2400 Forest Hill Avenue SE in Grand Rapids. Plans call for a single-story building of approximately 20,000 square feet. An updated exterior rendering has also been released, showing a redesigned tower that sits over the temple entrance.1


Temple Rendering

On November 6, 2023, the official exterior rendering of the Grand Rapids Michigan Temple was released to the public.2 An updated rendering, showing a redesigned tower over the entrance, was published on November 11, 2024.3


Temple Site

On November 7, 2022, the location of the Grand Rapids Michigan Temple was announced as a 10.5-acre site located at 2400 Forest Hill Avenue in Grand Rapids. Plans call for a single-story temple of approximately 20,000 square feet.


Temple Announcement

On October 2, 2022, President Russell M. Nelson announced plans to construct the Grand Rapids Michigan Temple at the October 2022 General Conference. The temple will be the second House of the Lord in Michigan, located in United States Midwest. The Detroit Michigan Temple was dedicated in 1999 by President Gordon B. Hinckley. The Church’s first building in Detroit was completed in 1928. Michigan is home to more than 45,000 Latter-day Saints in 96 congregations. Grand Rapids is the second-largest city in Michigan and the seat of Kent County.4
