Groundbreaking Date Released for the Grand Rapids Michigan Temple

Elder Mathias Held, First Counselor in the North America Northeast Area Presidency, will preside at the groundbreaking event for the Grand Rapids Michigan Temple on Saturday, December 7, 2024. The temple will be constructed on a 10.5-acre property located at 2400 Forest Hill Avenue SE in Grand Rapids. Plans call for a single-story building of approximately 20,000 square feet. An updated exterior rendering has also been released, showing a redesigned tower that sits over the temple entrance.

Demolition Activity at the Grand Rapids Michigan Temple Site

The former building that occupied the Grand Rapids Michigan Temple site has been demolished in preparation for construction of the temple. No groundbreaking date has been announced, but plans are underway. The 19,000-square-foot temple will serve Church members living on the western side of Michigan, sparing them traveling across the state to the Detroit Michigan Temple.

Exterior Rendering Released for the Grand Rapids Michigan Temple

The official exterior rendering for the Grand Rapids Michigan Temple was released today. The 20,000-square-foot building will be constructed on a 10.5-acre site located at 2400 Forest Hill Avenue in Grand Rapids. It will be the second temple built in the state of Michigan. The Detroit Michigan Temple was dedicated by President Gordon B. Hinckley on October 23, 1999.

Location of the Grand Rapids Michigan Temple Announced

The location of the Grand Rapids Michigan Temple has been announced as a 10.5-acre site located at 2400 Forest Hill Avenue in Grand Rapids. Plans call for a single-story temple of approximately 20,000 square feet. Detailed design plans are still under development, and project leaders will soon begin working with city officials on preliminary approvals. An exterior rendering and groundbreaking date will be released in the future.
