Temples of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints

At the end of July, local students of the BYU-Pathway Worldwide program gathered at the stake center for the Lubumbashi Democratic Republic of the Congo Stake to participate a health walk. They walked approximately 4 km (2.5 mi) from the stake center to the construction site of the Lubumbashi Democratic Republic of the Congo Temple and back. Having access to affordable college-level education is a great blessing to both Church members and non-members who take advantage of this remarkable program.

The concrete structural frame for the Lubumbashi Democratic Republic of the Congo Temple is largely in place, and installation of the roof has begun. At the front of the property, excavation has been carried out for the footings of the ancillary building, which will provide patron housing, arrival and dining facilities, a youth center, and laundry machines. A groundbreaking was held in August 2022, but construction began in the latter months of 2023.

"Whenever a temple of God is constructed, it stands as another symbol of truth, righteousness, and peace as we seek to apply the teachings of Jesus Christ," said Elder Matthew L. Carpenter, president of the Africa Central Area, in his opening remarks at the groundbreaking ceremony for the Lubumbashi Democratic Republic of the Congo Temple held on Saturday, August 20, 2022. He was joined by his two counselors and numerous guests including dozens of government, community, and interfaith leaders. The temple will be 19,300 square feet (1,800 square meters) and be constructed on a 2.57-acre site along with ancillary buildings for patron and missionary housing and a distribution center.

The official exterior rendering, location, and groundbreaking date for the Lubumbashi Democratic Republic of the Congo Temple have been released. Elder Matthew L. Carpenter, president of the Africa Central Area, will preside at the groundbreaking ceremony on Saturday, August 20, 2022. The temple will be built on Av. Kashobwe across the street from an international Belgian school, known as École Privée Belge de Lubumbashi, and near a man-made lake called Lac Kipopo. It will be the second temple in the country, joining the Kinshasa Democratic Republic of the Congo Temple.
