The groundbreaking ceremony for the Miraflores Guatemala City Guatemala Temple was held on Saturday, December 3, 2022. Elder Patricio M. Giuffra, second counselor in the Central America Area presidency, presided. The temple will be constructed on the 1.5-acre site of the former Roosevelt Ward meetinghouse at the intersection of 13 Calle and 5A Avenida in Guatemala City. The two-story temple will be approximately 30,000 square feet.1
Temple Name
On July 1, 2022, a Church news release revealed the official name for the temple announced for the greater Guatemala City area as the Miraflores Guatemala City Guatemala Temple.2

Temple Site
The Miraflores Guatemala City Guatemala Temple will be located at 13 Calle 5-56 in Guatemala City on the site of the Roosevelt Ward meetinghouse. Plans call for a two-story temple of approximately 30,000 square feet.3
Temple Announcement
On October 4, 2020, President Russell M. Nelson announced plans to construct a second temple in greater Guatemala City, Guatemala, joining the heavily utilized Guatemala City Guatemala Temple dedicated in 1984. The Miraflores Guatemala City Guatemala Temple will be the fourth in the country, which is home to nearly 300,000 Latter-day Saints organized into 51 stakes and 12 districts. The first missionaries were sent to preach the gospel in Guatemala in 1947 with the first official church meeting of 66 congregants occurring the next year in a rented hall.4
Temple Facts
The Miraflores Guatemala City Guatemala Temple will be the fourth temple built in Guatemala, following the Guatemala City Guatemala Temple (1984), the Quetzaltenango Guatemala Temple (2011), and the Cobán Guatemala Temple (under construction).
The Miraflores Guatemala City Guatemala Temple will be the fifth temple built in the same city as another operating temple, the Guatemala City Guatemala Temple (1984), making Guatemala City, Guatemala, the fifth city in the world to have more than one temple, following South Jordan, Utah; Provo, Utah; Lima, Peru; and St. George, Utah.
The Miraflores Guatemala City Guatemala Temple will be the third temple built outside of the United States in the same metropolitan area as another operating temple, the Guatemala City Guatemala Temple (1984), making the Guatemala City metropolitan area the third metropolitan area outside of the United States with more than one temple, following the Lima metropolitan area in Peru and the Greater Manila Area in the Philippines.
