Additional Phase 2 Reopenings Announced

On Monday, November 9, four more temples will move to Phase 2 of reopening including the Concepción Chile Temple, Oakland California Temple, Port-au-Prince Haiti Temple, and Santiago Chile Temple. This will bring the total number of temples operating under Phase 2 to 127.

Oakland California Temple Rededicated

President Dallin H. Oaks, first counselor in the First Presidency, presided over today's rededication of the Oakland California Temple. He was accompanied by Elder David A. Bednar of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles. "I'm astonished at the beauty of what has been done in the restoration of the Oakland Temple," President Oaks said. More than 123,000 people toured the building during the open house. Elder Bednar said, "People are drawn, not just to the beauty of this place. You feel something when you come onto the grounds of the temple."

Oakland California Temple Youth Devotional

President Dallin H. Oaks, first counselor in the First Presidency, will preside at a youth devotional on Saturday, June 15, 2019, in anticipation of the rededication of the Oakland California Temple on Sunday, June 16, 2019. President Oaks will be accompanied by his wife, Kristen, Elder David A. Bednar of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles, and his wife, Susan. The devotional begins at 7:00 p.m. at the Oakland Interstake Center.

Final Day of Open House Tours at the Oakland California Temple

Today is the last chance for guests to tour the interior of the Oakland California Temple before it closes for rededication on Sunday, June 16, 2019. Thousands of visitors have walked through the temple, taken pictures to commemorate their visit, and marveled at the panoramic views of the San Francisco Bay. The historic structure first opened in 1964.

Oakland California Temple Opens for Tours

The recently renovated Oakland California Temple opens for public tours this Saturday, May 11, through Saturday, June 1, 2019, except for Sundays. Walk-ins are welcome, but guests who have made a reservation will receive priority. This week, tours are being conducted by Elder Quentin L. Cook and Elder Gary E. Stevenson of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles for local community leaders. Take a virtual tour of the temple.

Wrapping Up the Oakland California Temple Renovation

With a month remaining before the open house begins for the Oakland California Temple, subcontractors are quickly working through the punch list to complete the renovation. Numerous flowers are ready to be planted, parking lot asphalt is ready to be laid, walkways are being poured, and the final interior finish work is underway.

Free reservations are now available to tour the interior of the newly renovated Oakland California Temple at a public open house beginning Saturday, May 11, and continuing through Saturday, June 1, 2019, except for Sundays. Following the open house, the temple will be rededicated on Sunday, June 16, 2019.

Open House Tickets for the Oakland California Temple

Free tickets for the open house of the Oakland California Temple will be made available four weeks from today beginning Saturday, March 30, 2019, at 7:00 a.m. PT. The open house will be held every day, except for Sundays, from Saturday, May 11, through Saturday, June 1, 2019. The temple will be rededicated on June 16, 2019.

Reopening Dates Announced for the Oakland California Temple

The newly renovated Oakland California Temple will open to the public for an open house period beginning Saturday, May 11, and concluding Saturday, June 1, 2019, except for Sundays. The temple will be rededicated in three sessions held on Sunday, June 16, 2019. A youth devotional will be held the evening prior.

Water Feature Running at the Oakland California Temple

The new water fountain feature at the entrance to Oakland California Temple site is now completed and operating. Although renovation efforts continue inside the temple, the grounds are open and have been fully decorated for the Christmas season. Free performances are offered at the visitors' center all month.

Water Feature Progress at the Oakland California Temple

Concrete has been poured for the basin of a circular water feature being installed on the Oakland California Temple grounds, replacing a decades-old water feature. At the center of the basin is the bottom tier of a bronze fountain. The historic temple stands in the beautiful Oakland hills.

Blue Skies over the Oakland California Temple

Crews at the Oakland California Temple are enjoying blue skies as they continue their work on renovating the 50-year-old structure. Scaffolding is visible around the base of the central tower that is facilitating cleaning and repair of the concrete exterior. Trenches have been dug along the temple grounds for installation and repair of plumbing for the water features.

Exterior Renovations Underway at the Oakland California Temple

The iconic carving of the Savior and His disciples that decorates the exterior of the Oakland California Temple is covered in scaffolding as the building continues to undergo renovations that include repairing and cleaning the stone cladding.
