Temple Advancements in 2016
In 2016, six temples were dedicated in Provo, Sapporo, Philadelphia, Fort Collins, Star Valley, and Hartford with two temples rededicated in Suva and Freiberg. Ground was broken for four temples in Kinshasa, Barranquilla, Durban, and Winnipeg. And four new temples were announced for Quito, Harare, Belém, and Lima.

President Henry B. Eyring Dedicates the Philadelphia Pennsylvania Temple
"It's a wonderful moment in the dedication of this temple," said President Henry B. Eyring at the cornerstone ceremony for the Philadelphia Pennsylvania Temple. "There is a stone prepared for us now to seal…it's symbolic of the Lord Jesus Christ who is the Chief Cornerstone of the Church." The beautiful 61,000-square-foot temple, located in the heart of Center City, Philadelphia, will serve more than 40,000 Church members.

Today is the final day of the Philadelphia Pennsylvania Temple open house. The temple will be closed over the next week as it is cleaned and prepared for dedication on Sunday, September 18. A youth cultural celebration will be held the evening prior at the Liacouras Center.

Open House Reservations Available May 23
Free tickets for the open house of the Philadelphia Pennsylvania Temple will be made available through an online reservation system beginning Monday, May 23. The interior of the temple is complete, and furniture is being delivered. Work is progressing on the exterior plaza.

A change has been made to the public open house for the Philadelphia Pennsylvania Temple, which will now begin on Wednesday, August 10, (five days later than previously announced) and continue through Friday, September 9. The dedication remains on the September 18.

All of the buildings at the Philadelphia Pennsylvania Temple complex are clearly visible in new photographs taken from a parking facility across the street. With the recent attachment of the inscription stones to the east side of the temple, the granite exterior is now complete.
Philadelphia Temple Exterior Almost Finished
The exterior of the Philadelphia Pennsylvania Temple will be completed in the next week or two, as the final granite, roofing, and lighting items are attached. Seating and lockers are being installed inside, which should be furnished by May. Landscaping will be tackled in the spring.

Spire Added to West Tower of Philadelphia Temple
Today the spire was added to the west tower of the Philadelphia Pennsylvania Temple. The spire for the east tower is also on site and will be installed soon. Construction of the temple is expected to be completed in the latter half of 2016.
Philadelphia Pennsylvania Temple Spire Awaiting Installation Atop East Tower
New photographs from the Philadelphia Pennsylvania Temple construction site show that the spire for the east tower is on site and being faced with stone cladding. The rod protruding from the spire cap will be used to support a gold-leafed statue of the angel Moroni standing atop a sphere. The west tower will feature a sphere topped with a finial. Progress is also shown on the meetinghouse and residential tower across the street.
Cornice Lighting Turned on at Philadelphia Temple
Exterior lighting beautifully accents the Philadelphia Pennsylvania Temple cornice. Just across the expressway, Pope Francis attended mass today at the Cathedral Basilica of Saints Peter and Paul in conjunction with the World Meeting of Families.
Granite Work Moves Up the Philadelphia Pennsylvania Temple
Scaffolding now surrounds both towers of the Philadelphia Pennsylvania Temple as the attachment of granite moves ever higher. Across from the temple, a 24,000-square-foot meetinghouse and 32-story residential tower are rising.
Philadelphia Temple Update
At the Philadelphia Pennsylvania Temple, granite has been attached up to the cornice and work progresses on the cornice roof, parapet, and towers. The completion of granite is expected by the end of November. Inside, painting and trim is moving along and the light fixtures are installed. Work has begun on an outdoor plaza.
Structural Steel Framing for Philadelphia Meetinghouse
The steel skeleton of the meetinghouse that stands across from the Philadelphia Pennsylvania Temple is rising while substructure walls are poured for the high-rise residential tower next door. Work continues on the temple proper where windows have been installed in the towers.
