On Saturday, February 25, 2012, the Portland Oregon Temple Visitors' Center opened its doors to the public in the building adjacent to the temple that formerly housed Distribution Services. The new center features interactive exhibits and opens everyday from 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m.

During a recent maintenance closure, white paint was sandblasted and then reapplied over the spires and upper sections of the Portland Oregon Temple due to deterioration. Workers were hoisted up in chairs and suspended next to the spires to perform the work. Dedicated in 1989, the Portland Oregon Temple is a stunning six-spire edifice that stands next to I-5 in Lake Oswego. It was the first temple built in Oregon and serves the majority of the state's 36 stakes. A second temple is located in the Medford metro area.
