Elder Stevenson Dedicates the Rio de Janeiro Brazil Temple
Elder Gary E. Stevenson of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles dedicated the Rio de Janeiro Brazil Temple on a beautiful Sunday morning, May 8, 2022. It is the 8th dedicated temple in Brazil and the 171st dedicated temple in operation in the Church. At the cornerstone ceremony that preceded the dedication, Elder Stevenson said: "Christ is the cornerstone, and it is on this foundation that everything is built. Just as He is the center of each of us, Jesus Christ is the symbol of this beautiful city, the cornerstone of our lives and hearts."
Tours of the Rio de Janeiro Brazil Temple Begin
Journalists have been invited to tour the interior of the Rio de Janeiro Brazil Temple today, and additional tours will be given all week to local dignitaries. Doors open to the public on Saturday, March 26. The five-week open house concludes on Saturday, April 30. Elder Ulisses Soares of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles, a native of Brazil, is among those guiding tours for invited guests. "Rio de Janeiro has a special place in my heart," he said, "because my wife and I served as missionaries there when we were young. What a beautiful thing it is to see the beloved place where we labored as young people now be ready to have a dedicated temple."
Open House and Dedication Announced for the Rio de Janeiro Brazil Temple
The public open house for the Rio de Janeiro Brazil Temple has been announced for Saturday, 26 March through Saturday, 16 April, 2022, except for 27 March, 2 April, 3 April, and 10 April. The temple will be dedicated on Sunday, May 8, 2022, with Elder Gary E. Stevenson of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles presiding. The evening before the dedication, a youth devotional will be held. The temple will have been completed for over two years, but the open house and dedication—originally announced for April and May 2020–were postponed due to the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Anniversary of the Rio de Janeiro Brazil Temple Opening Postponement
It was a year ago today that the originally scheduled open house and dedication dates for the Rio de Janeiro Brazil Temple were postponed indefinitely in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. In the time since that announcement, the temple has been much loved and frequently visited on the outside for photographs with this beautiful House of the Lord. And while this and other new or renovated temples have been completed, members continue to wait patiently for the time when open houses may be held.
Opening of Rio de Janeiro Brazil Temple Postponed
In response to government guidelines that seek to limit the spread of COVID-19, the public open house and dedication of the Rio de Janeiro Brazil Temple have been postponed until large public gatherings are deemed safe. Originally, the open house was to be held Friday, April 17, through Saturday, May 2, 2020. And the dedication was to be held on Sunday, May 17, 2020. An announcement with the revised opening dates will be made later.
Opening Dates Released for the Rio de Janeiro Brazil Temple
The First Presidency of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints invites the public to tour the newly completed Rio de Janeiro Brazil Temple beginning Friday, April 17, and continuing through Saturday, May 2, 2020. Tours will be held on every day except Sundays. The temple will be dedicated on Sunday, May 17, 2020, in three sessions held at 9:00 a.m., 12:00 p.m., and 3:00 p.m. The evening before the dedication, youth are invited to a devotional on Saturday, May 16, broadcast to meetinghouses throughout the temple district.

The general contractor has reportedly completed construction on the temple and has transferred it to the Church in the last couple of weeks. Members eagerly await the official announcement of the open house and dedication dates.
