Structural Walls Rising for the Santiago West Chile Temple

The reinforced concrete structural walls of the Santiago West Chile Temple continue to rise. Construction of the 12,500-square-foot temple began 7 months ago in the Santiago commune of Maipú. It is the second temple to be constructed in Chile's capital (and largest city) where Church members are organized into 28 stakes. The city was founded in 1541 by Spanish conquistador Pedro de Valdivia.

Visitors' Center Trailer Established at the Santiago West Chile Temple Site

A visitors' center trailer has been established at the Santiago West Chile Temple site. Guests are welcomed to schedule an appointment or to drop by on Saturdays and Sundays from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. The missionary couple provides information on the purpose of temples, the chosen designs for the temple, and specific updates on the construction of the temple and accommodation center.

Superstructure Rising for the Santiago West Chile Temple

During the past five months since the groundbreaking event was held for the Santiago West Chile Temple, the foundation has been installed, and work is moving forward on erecting the reinforced concrete structural walls. Two tower cranes are supporting the building of the temple and ancillary building, which will feature arrival facilities where patrons can prepare themselves to enter the temple.

Groundbreaking Services Held for the Santiago West Chile Temple

Elder Alan R. Walker, First Counselor in the South America South Area presidency, presided at the groundbreaking ceremony for the Santiago West Chile Temple on Saturday, August 17, 2024. Approximately 200 Church members and friends were in attendance along with civic, community, and religious leaders. Elder Walker said in his dedicatory prayer: "This temple will stand as a beacon of light, a place of peace and a refuge from the world, inviting all to come to Christ and receive His saving ordinances."

Service Project Held Ahead of Santiago West Chile Temple Groundbreaking

Church members and missionaries in Santiago, Chile, gathered at the Santiago West Chile Temple site on Saturday to carry out a service project at the wetlands located diagonally across the street. The project beautified the area just in time for the groundbreaking services that will be held this Saturday. The former structures on the temple site have been demolished, and preparations are well underway for this weekend's ceremony.

Preparing the Santiago West Chile Temple Site for Groundbreaking

In preparation for next month's groundbreaking for the Santiago West Chile Temple, demolition of the structures on site is underway, including a meetinghouse. The temple will rise in the Maipú district of Santiago, located in the southwest sector of the city. It will be the fourth temple built in Chile and the second built in Santiago. The Concepción Chile Temple was dedicated in 2018, and construction is wrapping up on the Antofagasta Chile Temple. A fifth Chilean temple has been announced for Viña del Mar.

Groundbreaking Date Announced for the Santiago West Chile Temple

Elder Alan R. Walker, second counselor in the South America South Area Presidency, will preside at the groundbreaking ceremony for the Santiago West Chile Temple on Saturday, August 17, 2024. The 12,500-square-foot temple will be constructed at Primo de Rivera 1551 in the Comuna de Maipu neighborhood of Santiago. A rendering of the exterior has also been released. It is the second temple to be constructed in Santiago, Chile.

Location Announced for the Santiago West Chile Temple

The location of Santiago's second temple, the Santiago West Chile Temple, has been announced. The property is located at the corner of Primo de Rivera and Avenida Lumen in the Comuna de Maipu neighborhood of Santiago, adjacent to the Los Libertadores Ward meetinghouse. Plans call for a single-story temple of approximately 12,500 square feet. The city's first temple was dedicated in September 1983.
