Elder Michael B. Strong, Second Counselor in the Philippines Area Presidency, presided over the groundbreaking ceremony for the Tacloban City Philippines Temple on Saturday, January 18, 2025. In his remarks, Elder Strong noted the baptism of George Pamin—the first member of the Church in Tacloban—which occurred exactly 56 years earlier. In his site dedicatory prayer, Elder Strong asked for all in the temple district to have greater capacity "to act with charity, compassion, patience and kindness towards our neighbors and to go about doing good." The temple will be constructed on a beautiful 6.99-acre site along Tacloban Bypass Road.1

Temple Site
On March 25, 2024, the location of the Tacloban City Philippines Temple was officially announced as a 6.99-acre property located on Tacloban Bypass Road in the Barangay Utap-Caibaan neighborhood of Tacloban City. Plans call for a two-story temple of approximately 21,407 square feet and an ancillary building housing an arrival center, patron housing, and a distribution center.2
Temple Announcement
On October 3, 2021, President Russell M. Nelson announced plans to construct the Tacloban City Philippines Temple at the October 2021 General Conference. There are more than 805,000 Latter-day Saints in over 1,225 congregations in the Philippines. Tacloban is in the Eastern Visayas region of the country. The city was hit by a deadly typhoon in 2013, but Latter-day Saints and their friends came together to rebuild homes and revitalize the area. This will be the eighth temple in the country. There are two operating temples in the Philippines and five others announced or under construction. The Manila Philippines Temple was dedicated in 1984, and the Cebu City Philippines Temple was dedicated in 2010. The other five temples are the Alabang Philippines Temple, Bacolod Philippines Temple, Cagayan de Oro Philippines Temple, Davao Philippines Temple, and the Urdaneta Philippines Temple.3
