Forming Continues for the Wichita Kansas Temple Foundation

Concrete footings continue to be formed for the foundation of the Wichita Kansas Temple, located in a beautiful new development in Northwest Wichita. Construction of the temple began less than two months ago in early September 2024. The Greater Wichita region is known as the Air Capital of the World, as it is home to some of the world's largest aerospace manufacturers and to the National Institute for Aviation Research.

Foundation Work Underway for the Wichita Kansas Temple

Concrete footings and rebar columns are being installed for the foundation of the Wichita Kansas Temple, which had a groundbreaking ceremony just two-and-a-half weeks ago. The 9,950-square-foot temple is the first in the state and will fill a gap between the Oklahoma City Oklahoma Temple and the Kansas City Missouri Temple. There are more than 38,000 members in Kansas organized into approximately 75 congregations.

Groundbreaking Held for the Wichita Kansas Temple

On Saturday, September 7, 2024, groundbreaking services were held for the Wichita Kansas Temple. Elder Steven R. Bangerter, First Counselor in the North America Central Area Presidency, presided. In his site dedicatory prayer, he said: "Please bless us this day that, as we turn this dirt as a symbol of a new beginning, that we may feel Thy Holy Spirit within our hearts as a manifestation of the divine mission of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, that we may each feel a new beginning with renewed commitment to live our lives according to His teachings and filled with His love."

Groundbreaking Date Announced for the Wichita Kansas Temple

Groundbreaking services for the Wichita Kansas Temple will take place on Saturday, September 7, 2024. Elder Steven R. Bangerter, First Counselor in the North America Central Area Presidency, will preside at the event. The temple will be built on a 6.42-acre lot in The Moorings Plaza Fourth Addition subdivision. Plans call for a single-story temple of approximately 9,950 square feet.

Installing Utility Stubs at the Wichita Kansas Temple Site

Utility stubs are being installed at the new Moorings Plaza development in Wichita where the Wichita Kansas Temple site is located. Contractors connect to these stubs to provide public utility services to their building projects, such as water, sewer, natural gas, and electricity. Establishing these services will bring the temple project closer to a groundbreaking announcement, but no announcement has been made yet.

Construction Activity at the Wichita Kansas Temple Site

Preliminary construction activity has been seen at the Wichita Kansas Temple site, preparing the property for the construction of the first house of the Lord in Kansas. The 9,950-square-foot temple will rise on a 6.42-acre site on North Meridian Avenue near I-235 in northern Wichita. No exterior rendering of the temple has been released, and no groundbreaking date has been announced.

Location Announced for the Wichita Kansas Temple

The location of the Wichita Kansas Temple has been announced as a 6.42-acre site located on North Meridian Avenue in the Moorings Plaza development in northern Wichita. Plans call for a single-story temple of approximately 9,950 square feet. It will be the first temple constructed in the state of Kansas. Members currently participate in ordinance work at temples in the neighboring states of Missouri and Oklahoma.
