On April 3, 2022, President Russell M. Nelson announced plans to construct the Knoxville Tennessee Temple at the April 2022 General Conference. Knoxville is situated on the Tennessee River in the eastern part of the state. The Knoxville Tennessee Temple will be the third for the state. The first, the Memphis Tennessee Temple, and the second, the Nashville Tennessee Temple, were dedicated in 2000. Missionary work first began in 1834. Today, there are around 53,000 Latter-day Saints in over 100 congregations in Tennessee.4
