Groundbreaking Ceremony

"My prayer today is that no matter how close or how far away you live, you’ll be intentional about scheduling time to be in the temple," said Elder Randall K. Bennett, General Authority Seventy and president of the North America Central Area, at the groundbreaking ceremony for the Lethbridge Alberta Temple on Saturday, April 26, 2025. "I promise you it will change your life." More than 550 guests were in attendance including 100 community, interfaith, government, business, and Indigenous leaders.¹

On April 29, 2024, the official exterior rendering of the Lethbridge Alberta Temple was released to the public.²

Temple Site

On September 5, 2023, it was announced that the Lethbridge Alberta Temple would be constructed on a property of more than 9 acres located at the corner of Whoop Up Drive West and Mauretania Road West in Lethbridge. Plans call for a multistory temple of approximately 45,000 square feet and an accompanying distribution center.³

Temple Announcement

On April 2, 2023, President Russell M. Nelson announced plans to construct the Lethbridge Alberta Temple at the April 2023 General Conference. It will be Canada’s tenth temple. Around 100,000 people call Lethbridge home. It is located near the southern border of the western Canadian province of Alberta. Other temples in Canada include the Calgary Alberta Temple, Cardston Alberta Temple, Edmonton Alberta Temple, Halifax Nova Scotia Temple, Montreal Quebec Temple, Regina Saskatchewan Temple, Toronto Ontario Temple, Vancouver British Columbia Temple, and Winnipeg Manitoba Temple. There were nearly 200,000 Latter-day Saints in approximately 500 congregations in Canada at the time of the announcement.⁴
