Groundbreaking Ceremony Held for the Santos Brazil Temple

In his first assignment since beginning his service in the Brazil Area Presidency, Elder Ronald M. Barcellos of the Seventy presided at the groundbreaking ceremony for the Santos Brazil Temple on Saturday, August 1, 2026. Church members, friends, public officials, religious leaders, and invited guests gathered for the occasion, bringing together generations of Latter-day Saints from across the Baixada Santista region. The ceremony was held in the Jabaquara Ward meetinghouse, located on the very site where the 23,000-square-foot temple will soon rise.

Groundbreaking Date Set for the Santos Brazil Temple

The groundbreaking ceremony for the Santos Brazil Temple will be held on Saturday, August 1, 2026. Elder Ronald M. Barcellos, of the Brazil Area Presidency, will preside at the event. The temple will be constructed on the site of the Jabaquara Ward meetinghouse, located at Avenida Doutor Waldemar Leão, 305. Plans call for a two-story building of approximately 23,000 square feet.

Meetinghouse Property to Become Santos Brazil Temple Site

The Jabaquara Ward meetinghouse site, located at Avenida Doutor Waldemar Leão, 305, has been announced as the location of the Santos Brazil Temple. Plans call for a two-story building of approximately 23,000 square feet. There are two dedicated temples in the state of São Paulo with three more in the planning stages, including the Santos Brazil Temple, the São Paulo East Brazil Temple, and the Ribeirao Preto Brazil Temple.
